Malcolm Jones joined Tribal Capital Markets in late 2016 to help launch their public finance effort. Mr. Jones has more than 30 years’ experience in the capital markets with a focus on public finance investment banking and advisory work plus institutional sales. His public finance experience includes working with state and local governments plus special districts to fund their capital projects. On the institutional sales front, Mr. Jones was Director of Institutional Sales at AIG SunAmerica and a founding Principal with Trinity Partners LLC.

Mr. Jones began his public finance career in 1982 at Lehman Brothers followed by Smith Barney and Kidder Peabody. He was active in both investment banking and financial advisory services to public finance clients. His financial advisory experience includes work while at investment banks plus independent financial advisory firms Public Resources Advisory Group (PRAG) and Sperry Capital.

Public finance clients included the States of California and Montana along with the largest cities and counties on the West Coast. Other major clients included Texas DOT (P3 concession advisor), CalTrans (their first P3 project), LA County MTA, Orange County Transportation Commission, San Diego County MTA and the Port of Los Angeles.

Mr. Jones received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his MBA (Finance) from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He served on the Editorial Review Board of the Municipal Finance Journal (1985-1995), authored the chapter on Funding Agreements for “Cash Management: Products & Strategies” (edited by Fabozzi) and has been a frequent speaker at public finance conferences. He served as Regional Chairman for the Dartmouth Will to Excel Campaign and advisor to the $1.3 billion Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience. He is on the Executive Committee for Dartmouth’s Class Officers Association. At Kellogg, Mr. Jones has served as a visiting lecturer and is on the Advisory Board for their Asset Management Practicum and a member of their West Coast major gifts committee which includes serving on the West Coast Regional Campaign Committee for Northwestern’s $3.75 billion capital campaign. Mr. Jones received the Dean Malley Sun Tzu Award from the Sierra Nevada Alliance in recognition of “outstanding leadership in addressing the stop work California State bond freeze in 2009.” Mr. Jones is a Board member and Executive Committee member of the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council.

Malcolm currently holds FINRA licensing 7, 52, 53, and 66.
